The Best Katoomba Self Contained Accommodation

Katoomba is located 118km west of Sydney in the magnificent Blue Mountains.  While the most famous view is of the Three Sisters from the easily accessible Echo Point, there are many other experiences available for visitors ranging from luxurious high teas to getting back to nature.

Options include a plethora of bush walks (or hikes) ranging from hours to days in length and partaking of spectacular high tea whilst looking out over the fabulous views.  In addition the great variety of eclectic shops and gourmet cafes and restaurants in Katoomba provide some well deserved luxury time out.

The Best Katoomba Self Contained Accommodation

We regularly book self contained accommodation as our preferred choice – in our case there is a strong argument to have a separate bedroom for our children, as well as the convenience (and cost savings) of preparing many of our own meals.  We also enjoy being able to have more space than the typical hotel room.

Katoomba is a great destination, and below is my guide to the best self contained accommodation in Katoomba to help you find the perfect option to visit the Blue Mountains.

Elizabeth Flats Apartments

Elizabeth Flats Apartments is a small apartment hotel located in the centre of Katoomba.  The three apartments each have lovely garden views and accommodate up to six people in each of the two bedroom apartments, and up to two people in the studio apartment with spa bath.

It is an excellent choice for accommodation in the Katoomba area due to being centrally located and within only a five minute drive from the Three Sisters viewing point and a 15 minute drive from the Katoomba Train Station.

Each apartment contains:

  • A lounge area with a TV, CD and DVD player
  • A kitchen containing a microwave oven, refrigerator and stovetop
  • A private bathroom with shower and bathtub
  • Free wifi for all guests
  • Board games and puzzles
  • Books, DVDs and music for children
  • Heating
  • Non-smoking
  • Free parking on site
  • Laundry services are available

A short 550m walk will bring guests to both the local supermarkets as well as the start of the main Katoomba shopping street, which contains many restaurant and café options.  A shorter 400m walk will take you to the closest stop for the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus which enables you to readily hop on and hop off across many Katoomba tourist destinations.

Why Stay Here? A quiet centrally located accommodation option with free good quality Wi Fi walking distance access to amenities.

Why Wouldn’t You Stay Here?  If you want room service and an on site restaurant…

Who Should Stay Here?  Couples and families looking for self-contained accommodation who want everything within easy walking distance.

  1. I’d love to visit the Blue Mountains – and the self contained accommodation options are the perfect choice for us! My partner is a chef so we love staying where there is a kitchen so we can cook our own meals and not have to eat out all the time.

  2. Love your wrap-up at the end, makes it nice an easy to figure out which is the best stay for my family. Thanks for the comprehensive details.

    • Tonya, thank you for your comment. I thought it would be good to include a wrap up, as there is a lot of information to consider before choosing which accommodation option will suit you best.

  3. I have to admit that I’ve never heard of Katoomba but I’m sure I’d love to visit one day soon. From all the choices, as a person who travels with my family, Elizabeth Flats sounds like the perfect place for us to stay.

  4. I have a colleague who just came from the Blue Mountains for a holiday and she keeps telling me that my next travel plan should include Australia and the Blue Mountains. From your post, I think I must include Katoomba too! Thanks for sharing this and I really hope I can visit Australia someday.

  5. This is a very comprehensive list! Thanks for narrowing everything down. I love the variety of options for the self contained accommodations.

  6. Lovely place to stay!
I am rather a budget traveler, so I would probably choose Echo Point Village, but you did a great job listing and comparing all these places. Now I see you’re really dedicated to “the process of planning” and you really love it :))

  7. My husband and I are great fans of apartments and villas, the kitchen and they space you can have give you so much freedom. I do like to stay in good hotels, but there is something on the mountains and countryside that ask for a self contained apartment, so you can have breakfast on your own time, a nice glass of wine at night time while appreciating the view…

    Great List Anne!
    Tks

  8. I love the wrapup chart at the end…pulls it all together nicely. It’s actually surprising to me that there are hotels that don’t have wifi. Great way of forcing an electronic detox, and connecting with yourself and whoever you’re traveling with (if you’re traveling with someone).

    • Thanks Dariece, I agree that I am also surprised to find places without wifi – but for Australian travel I have become so annoyed/disappointed when they DO provide wifi that I actually now bring my own wifi dongle when I travel, which enables me to connect easily anywhere I go (which includes as I am sitting in a hotel tonight…)

  9. What a handy resource! I haven’t made it over to the Blue Mountains in a long time, but I’d love to get back there and explore it at a more sedate pace someday.

    • Thanks Chris, you will have to visit again – we have visited the Blue Mountains many times over the years and always find somewhere new to explore and it is also easy to return to special places as well!

  10. A nice selection of accommodation there. Shame about the WiFi options on some of them though. i wonder how much custom they lose out on because of this?

  11. Blue Mountains! The moment I saw the first photo, I shouted with joy. 🙂
It’s 16 years since I visited blue mountains.

Guess it’s time to go again.

Love the detailed analysis you’ve done and summarized it well in the end.

  12. We live in Sydney and used to go to the Blue Mountains regularly but we haven’t been there for a few years. Instead of heading off interstate and overseas every few months next year we are planning to stay a bit closer to home so your post might just come in handy.
