It is not uncommon for people to have to transfer directly from Narita Airport NRT to Haneda Airport HND or do the reverse from Haneda Airport HND to Narita Airport NRT to catch transferring flights.
When booking their flights people may be unaware that the two airports are located quite a distance apart, with Narita Airport being located 70km to the east of Tokyo Station and Haneda Airport being located 19km to the south of Tokyo Station.
As a result I have put together a detailed range of options to help you most efficiently travel between the two airports, and to identify the option which best meets your budget and connection timeframe.

5 Options to Most Easily Transfer from Narita to Haneda
To help you work out the best option to suit your personal situation I have put together the five options to most easily and most cost effectively transfer from Narita to Haneda, or in reverse from Haneda to Narita Airport. They are sequenced with the easiest and most cost effective options first.
There are other public transportation options you can utilise to travel between Narita and Haneda Airports, however each of them require more than one transfer so they do not meet my criteria for the ‘easiest’ option.

You might mention that using a Rail Pass to get from Narita to Haneda or Tokyo means they activate it and the clock on their pass starts ticking. For budget travelers who may be starting their trips with a few days in Tokyo it might make more sense to pay cash for the train and therefore extend the time they can use the pass.
Douglas, thank you for sharing this tip. I will update the article.
Hi.. would you recommend the limousine bus if I only have 3 hours between my flights? Thanks!
Yes, three hours is not too bad to do the transfer. If you are concerned then a taxi may be a better option.
I have about 10 hrs for transfer from Haneda to Narita airport. And I am thinking of taking Limo bus. But I am wondering if they will let me in with all my luggage! My travel agent said that I have to take my luggage at Haneda and check back at Narita.
Fakhera, the Limousine Bus will be able to take your luggage as you transfer between the airports with no problem. The Limousine Bus will be much easier than having to catch the train and change stations while carrying everything.
Found that some of the cheapest flights include this transfer, and I never take it since it looks complicated. Thanks for the great post!
Hi,
Do I need visa to transfer from Haneda to Narita air port? I live in Seattle, plan to go to Thailand soon.
Thank you,
Jeff
Jeff, yes you do currently need a visa to transfer, and they are unavailable unless you book a package tour. So no transfers just yet unfortunately! (as at June 2022)
Hello Anne.
Our domestic flight is expected to arrive at Haneda airport at night (21:15). I was thinking of transferring to a hotel near Narita airport the same night (our international flight out of Narita is 11:00 on the following day).
How best can we, a family of three, transfer from Haneda to Narita during late hours?
With a quick look, some transport means appear not available after 20:30 or so.
Hi Hiroko, unfortunately you are currently unable to leave the airport if you do not have a visa, and tourists are only allowed to enter Japan if they are part of an organised group tour. As a result you will not be able to leave the airport. Also, this means that you cannot transfer to Haneda Airport either. I suggest you reach out to your airline to raise the issue and get their assistance to resolve.
Hi–I’m flying from Seattle to Osaka. The cheapest flight home goes from Osaka Itami (ITM) to Haneda, with a 5 hour layover, and then from Narita to Seattle. I see that it is about 2 hours on public transit from HND to NRT. Do you think a 5 hour layover is sufficient time, given that I will need to exit the airport, figure out how to catch the train, take the train, figure out where to go at NRT, etc.
Thank you!!
Hi Aaron, I think you would be better off catching the shinkansen train from Shin-Osaka Station to Tokyo Station and then the Narita Express to Narita Airport. That way there is lower risk of flight cancellations, and in total the trip will actually be faster if you allow for the extra time you need to arrive at the airport.
arrive narita airport jan 30th 2023 so wont need visa.Need to get to haneda airport. Travelling alone so want easiest method without having to change trains or vehicles. So is there one train i can get on a narita airport and off at haneda. Or shuttle or bus my best bet.
Jayne
No, unfortunately the only direct option is the Limousine Bus transfer or shuttle bus as detailed in the article.
